Peanut Butter Sandwich
In the pantry in our kitchen
There is food on every shelf.
There's a snack that I enjoy
And I can get it by myself.
When I am feeling hungry
And I need to fill my belly,
I find the peanut butter,
Get some bread and lots of jelly.
Then I make a tasty sandwich,
And I gobble every bite.
A peanut butter sandwich
Is simply a delight.
You can eat your cold bologna
Or enjoy some ham and cheese.
But for me, when I am hungry
I say, "Peanut butter, please!"

Growing Up
There will be a time when there will be no slamming of doors,
no toys on the stairs, no childhood quarrels,
no fingerprints on the wallpaper.
Then may I look back with joy and not regret . . .
God, give me wisdom to see that today is my day with my children.
That there is no unimportant moment in their lives.
May I know that no other career is so precious,
no other work so rewarding, no other task so urgent.
May I not defer it or neglect it,
but by the Spirit accept it gladly, joyously,
and by Thy grace realize that the time is short and my time is
now,
for children won't wait!
A Story of Love
You were six months old and full of fun,
With a blink of my eye you were suddenly one.
There were so many things we were going to do,
But I turned my head and you turned two.
At two you were very dependent on me,
But independence took over when you turned three.
Your third birthday another year I tried to ignore,
But when I lit the candles there weren't three but four.
Four was the year you really had to strive,
Why look at you now you're already five.
Now you are ready for books and for rules,
This is the year you go to school.
The big day came, you were anxious to go,
We walked to the bus going oh so slow.
As you climbed aboard and waved good-bye,
I felt a lump in my throat and tears stung my eyes.
Time goes so fast it's hard to believe,
That just yesterday you were home here with me.
And tomorrow when the bus brings you home and you jump to the
ground,
You'll be wearing your cap and graduation gown.
So I'm holding these moments as hard as I can,
Because the next time I look I'll be seeing a man.

The Haircut
By Jeff Moss
I knew I should have stopped him
just as soon as he began it.
That barber left me looking
like the beast from some lost planet.
It's like he used a lawn mower
and then my hair got sat on.
Oh well, I'll just go through the next six years
with this dumb hat on.
Little Boy
By Ken Brown
Little boy,
Shock of hair,
Time to visit
The barber chair.
Ne'er before
This trip he's made;
He's quite unsure
But unafraid.
A memory saved,
A lock of hair
From his very first visit
To the barber chair.
A Lock of Hair
From a child so fair
A miracle from above
Placed gently in my care
This child is growing
Up so fast
Tomorrow's the future
Today is the past.
Walking . . . talking . . .
Fading riddles and rhymes
This lock of hair remains
A keepsake of past times.

They're even in-between my toes.
They're on my chest and in my hair,
These chicken pox are everywhere!
They're on my feet and elbows, too.

I wish that they would go away,
So I could go outside and play.

Loose Tooth
By Crystal Bowman
My tooth came loose
the other day.
It happened while I was at play.
I wiggled it
With all my might,
Back and forth,
Left and right.
Then all of a sudden,
Out it came.
A little blood,
A little pain.
And now I have a little hole.
It's where my tongue
Just seems to go.

Boys
A boy is . . .
Trust with dirt on its face,
Beauty with a cut on its finger,
Wisdom with bubble gum in its hair, and the
Hope of the future with
A frog in its pocket.
There are only two kinds of boys:
Dirty, and Not Yet
If you have a little boy
All your very own,
Then you have enough and more
To make a happy home.
Little Boys are Trasures
Little boys are treasures
Who are worth their weight in gold
And charm everyone around them
From the time they're hours old . . .
They're Mommy's little darling,
They're a special pal to Dad,
And they bring the very happiest days
A family's ever had!

In all the things you've said and done.
I am so very proud of you

One Small Child
(Author Unknown)
One small hand to hold in yours,
One small face to smile,
One wet kiss as he says "good night"
One small child.
Catch the moment, put it in your heart
The years too soon will fly.
These are precious moments,
more than money can buy.
Two small arms to hold you tight,
Two small feet to run,
Two small eyes full of love for you,
One small son.
Catch the moment and put it in your heart
and never let it go.
Save it for the years to come,
when he, too will know.
One small hand to hold in his
One small face to smile.
One small kiss and he says "good night"
One small child.

The Young and the Restless
You're one in a million
The Bubble
By Crystal Bowman
I blew a great big bubble
While chewing gum today.
It stretched out wide before it popped,
I'm really pleased to say.
A little gum got on my cheeks,
And in my nose and hair.
My eyebrows felt a little weird,
But I didn't really care.
My ears were just a little plugged.
Some gum was on my chin.
The collar of my oxford shirt
Was sticking to my skin.
The bubble was enormous,
The noise was very loud.
My mother wasn't happy,
But I was very proud!
I Took His Hand and Followed
(Author Unknown)
My dishes went unwashed today,
I didn't make the bed,
I took his hand and followed
Where his eager footsteps led.
Oh yes, we went adventuring,
My little son and I . . .
Exploring all the great outdoors
Beneath the summer sky.
We waded in a crystal stream,
We wandered through a wood . . .
My kitchen wasn't swept today
But life was gay and good.
We found a cool, sun-dappled glade
And now my small son knows
How Mother Bunny hides her nest,
Where jack-in-the-pulpit grows.
We watched a robin feed her young,
We climbed a sunlit hill . . .
Saw cloud-sheep scamper through the sky,
We plucked a daffodil.
That my house was neglected,
That I didn't brush the stairs,
In twenty years, no one on earth
Will know, or even care.
But that I've helped my little boy
To noble manhood grow,
In twenty years, the whole wide world
May look and see and know.
Little Teachers
By Desiree Wright
We were sent here
to teach our parents
important things
they forgot.
To laugh at bubbles.
To spin until you fall.
To run with no direction.
To hug so tightly
that tears flow.
My Handprints
(Author Unknown)
Sometimes you get discouraged
Because I am so small
and always leave my fingerprints
On furniture and walls
But everyday I'm growing . . .
I'll be grown up one day.
And all the tiny fingerprints
Will surely fade away.
So here's a real handprint
Just so you can recall,
Exactly how my fingers looked
When I was very small.
Play
By Leslie Prest
Housework can wait, my children need kisses.
They want me to play, I'll put off the dishes.
When they're grown, I'll keep the house spic 'n' span . . .
But children grow fast so I'll play while I can.
Say it With Flowers
(Author Unknown)
A rose can say I Love You,
Orchids can enthrall;
But a weed bouquet in a chubby fist,
Oh my, that says it all!
Shadow
By Robert Louis Stevenson
I have a little shadow that goes in and
out with me.
And what can be the use of him is
more than I can see.
He is very, very like me from the heels
up to his head,
And I see him jump before me, when I
jump into my bed.
Sit Still!
By Crystal Bowman
My father says to sit up straight,
My mother says, "Don't squirm!"
They say that I remind them
Of a wiggle, wiggle worm.
My ankles get so tired
When they're haniging in the air.
They feel a whole lot better
When I rest them on my chair.
Sitting still in grown-up chairs
Is really quite a chore.
But life will be more pleasant
When my feet can touch the floor.
A Touch of Love
You were six months old and full of fun
With a blink of my eye, you were suddenly one
There were so many things we were going to do,
But I turned my head and you turned two.
At two you were very dependant on me
But independence took over when you turned three.
Your third birthday, another year I tried to ignore,
But when I lit the candles, there weren't three, but four.
Four was the year that you really strived.
Why, look at you now, you're already five.
Now you are ready for books and for rules.
This is the year that you go to school.
The big day came, you were anxious to go.
We walked to the bus, going oh, so slowly.
As you climbed aboard and waved good-bye,
I felt a lump in my throat and tears stung my eyes.
Time goes so fast, it's hard to believe
That just yesterday you were home here with me.
And tomorrow, when the bus brings you home
and you jump to the ground,
You'll be wearing your cap and graduation gown.
So I'm holding to these moments as hard as I can,
Because the next time I look,
I'll be seeing a man.
My child, your memory treasures,
Captured in this book to see,
Creating it has been my pleasure,
This priceless gift to you
from me.
(By Kim Beckstead)
A hundred years from now it will not matter what my bank account
was, the sort of house I lived in, or the kind of car I drove
. . . but the world may be different because I was important in
the life of a child.

It's time of wide-eyed wonder,
a magic holiday

And little sleepyheads try hard

Yes, Christmas is for children-

Dear Santa
By Garnett Ann Schultz
Dear Santa, please note
That on Christmas this year,
There's a new little fellow
We all hold so dear,
He's tiny and precious
And can't understand
The gladness of holding
A toy in his hand
Dear Santa, I'm writing
'Cause he's much too small,
A wee little angel
Not quite a yard tall,
But, oh, he's so precious,
His face wrapped in smiles;
He's all of our Christmas;
He loves and beguiles.
Dear Santa, his stocking
is so very wee,
Perhaps you shall miss it
Beneath the huge tree,
But do treat it gently
And leave him a toy,
For though he's quite tiny
He's our pride and joy.
He's loving and happy,
So much joy he gives;
His heart filled with laughter
Each day that he lives.
We've told him you're coming,
Of presents and cheer;
We're certain, dear Santa,
He'll know you next year.
WINTER FUN
By Freda Henning
The snow came floating gently down,
It lay so softly on the ground,
The children came with cheeks of red
To play upon this feather bed.
Death
God saw that you were getting tired
and a cure was not to be
So He put His arms around you,
and whispered, "Come to Me."
With tearful eyes we watched you,
and saw you pass away,
Although we loved you dearly
We could not make you stay.
A golden heart stopped beating,
Hard working hands laid to rest,
God broke our hearts to prove to us
He only takes the best.
He Only Took My Hand
Last night as I was trying to sleep
My daddy's voice I did hear
I opened my eyes and looked all around,
But he did not appear.
He said: You've got to listen . . .
You've got to understand,
God didn't take me from you
He only took my hand.
When I called out in pain that night,
The instant that I died
God reached down and took my hand,
And pulled me to his side.
He pulled me up and saved me,
From the misery and pain.
My body was hurt so badly inside
I could never have been the same.
My search is really over now . . .
I found happiness within.
All the answers to my empty dreams,
And all that might have been.
I love you all and miss you so,
And I'll always be nearby.
My body's gone forever,
But my spirit will never die!
And so, you must all go on now,
Live one day at a time, just understand;
God didn't take me from you,
He only took my hand.
Letter From Heaven
To my dearest family,
Some things I'd like to say
But first of all, to let you know,
That I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven.
Here I dwell with God above
Here, there's no more tears of sadness,
Here there's just eternal love.
Please do not be unhappy
Just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I am with you
every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you
When my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me
and He said, "I welcome you.
It's good to have you back again,
You were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family,
They'll be here later on.
I need you here so badly,
You're so much a part of my plan.
There is so much that we have to do,
to help our mortal man."
God gave to me a list of things
That He wished for me to do,
And foremost on the list it said
I was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night
the day's chores put to flight,
Remember, God and I are closest to you
in the middle of the night.
When you think of my life on earth,
and all those loving years.
Because you're only human
They are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry;
It does relieve the pain,
Remember there would be no flowers
Unless there was some rain.
I wish that I could tell you
All that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you,
You would not understand.
But one thing is for certain
Though my life on earth is no more
Please know I'm closer to you now
than I ever was before.
There are many rocky roads ahead of you
and many hills to climb.
But together we can do it,
by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy
and I'd like it for you too . . .
That as you give unto the world,
the world will give to you.
If you can give help to someone
who's in sorrow and in pain,
Then you can say to God at night . . .
"My day was not in vain."
And now I am content to know . . .
That my life was worthwhile,
Knowing as I passed along the way
I made somebody smile.
So if you meet somebody
Who is sad . . . and feeling low,
Just lend a hand to pick them up,
as on your way you go.
And when you're walking down the street,
and you have me on your mind,
I'm walking in your footsteps
Only a half a step behind.
And when it's time for you to go
From that body to be free
Remember you're not going . . .
You're coming home to me.
The Dash
By Linda Ellis
http://www.lindaslyrics.com
I read of a man who stood to speak at the funeral of a friend.
He referred to the dates on her tombstone - From the beginning
. . . to the end. He noted that first came the date her of birth,
followed by her death date. But he said what mattered most of
all was the dash between those years. (1900-1970)
For that dash represents all the time
That she spent alive on earth . . .
And now only those who loved her
Know what that little line is worth.
For it matters not, how much we own;
The cars . . . the house . . . the cash.
What matters is how we live and love
And how we spend our dash.
So think about this long and hard . . .
Are there things you'd like to change?
For you never know how much time is left.
That can still be rearranged.
If we could just slow down enough
To consider what's true and real,
And always try to understand
The way the other people feel.
And be less quick to anger,
And show more appreciation more
And love the people in our lives
Like we've never loved before.
If we treat each other with respect,
And more often wear a smile . . .
Remembering that this special dash
Might only last a little while.
So, when your eulogy's being read
With your life's actions to rehash . . .
Would you be proud of the things they say
About how you spent your dash?

Spring Welcome
By Freda Henning
The fresh beauty of Spring with forty shades of green
Brings the loveliest sights that will ever be seen.
Stately Oak and Elm trees sway gently in the breeze,
Enticing the Robins to nestle in their leaves.
Bright golden Daffodils gleam softly in the sun
To offer a preview of more splendor to come.
A lush velvet carpet brings emeralds into view,
Glistening like diamonds in early morning dew.
Hyacinths bear florets, all clustered in a row,
As Croci peek skyward from their blossoms below.
Glowing satin Tulips with petals open wide,
Add a new dimension to Mother Nature's pride.
Lilies Of The Valley herald the joy of Spring,
Each tier of ivory bells resounding every ring.
Deep lavender Lilacs spread a fragrance so sweet,
As bees find their nectar a satisfying treat.
Red Cardinals and Blue Jays soar smoothly without sound,
Watching Squirrels play tag on Nature's vast playground.
The Iris stand regal in their tall graceful sheaths,
As white, pink and purple spill over slender leaves.
The Pine, the Spruce and Fir stand boldly to proclaim
Throughout every season they ever look the same.
Rain
April Showers Bring May Flowers!
Let it rain, let it rain, let it rain
Let it rain, rain, rain
Rain, Rain, Go away, Come again another day
And the rain, rain, rain, came down, down, down . . .
Rainy Day Fun
Raindrops keep falling on my head
Raindrops keep fallin' on my head, and toes, and . . .
Singin' in the rain
The way I see it, if you want the rainbow, you gotta put up with
the rain. (Dolly Parton)
We do not sing "Rain, Rain Go Away". We put on our slickers
and go out and play!
