All About Family
By Joan Walsh Anglund
Families may come from lands afar,
They each may follow a different star,
They each have different hopes and rules
Different dreams and different tools
Formed of life . . . molded by life,
They are "Together" through joy and strife.
"Together" they meet all their days
And shape their lives in special ways.
A family is the place we start
It is our Strength . . .
Our Home, our Heart.
So to my Family I give praise
And keep this record of all our days.

Family Ties
By Virginia Moore
Family ties are precious things,
Woven through the years,
Of memories of togetherness,
Of laughter, love and tears.
Family ties are cherished things,
Forged in childhood days,
By love of parents, deep and true,
And sweet familiar ways.
Family ties are treasured things,
And far though we may roam,
The tender bonds with those we love,
Still pull our hearts toward home.

Our Family is a circle of
strength and love
With every birth and every
union, the circle grows.
Every crisis faced together
makes the circle stronger.
Every joy shared adds more
love.

Father
All My Father's
Anyone can be a father, but it takes someone special to be a daddy!
Dad - a son's first hero, a daughter's first love
A daddy is a man who has photos in his wallet where his money used to be.
A father is someone you look up to no matter how tall you grow.
A father is neither an anchor to hold us back , Nor a sail to take us there, But a guiding light whose love shows us the way (sea shore theme)
Father's Day fun with the sons
A father's love warms the hearts of his/her children forever.
Fun with Dad
A happy childhood is one of the best gifts that parents have it in their power to bestow.
Hop on Pop, We like to hop, We like to hop on Pop!
I am man, hear me snore
I'm as lucky as can be, for the world's best dad belongs to me.
Just me and my pa
No "lion" . . . we think our Dad is GRRRREAT!

Other words for "Father:" Dad, Daddy, Dada, Papa, Pops, Pop, Poppy, Padre

DADDY
"Walk a little slower, Daddy."
Said a little child so small.
"I’m following in your footsteps,
And I don’t want to fall.

Sometimes your steps are very fast,
Sometimes they’re hard to see;
So walk a little slower, Daddy,
For you are leading me.

Someday when I’m all grown up.
You’re what I want to be;
Then I will have a little child,
Who’ll want to follow me.

And I would want to lead just right,
And know that I was true;
So, walk a little slower, Daddy,
for I must follow you."

Give Him a Day
What shall you give to one small boy?
A glamorous game, a tinseled toy?
A Boy Scout knife, a puzzle pack?
A train that runs on some cruising track?
A picture book, a real live pet?
No, there's plenty of time for such things yet
Give him a day for his very own.
Just one small boy and his Dad alone.
A walk in the wood, a romp in the park;
A fishing trip from dawn to dark.
Give him the gift that only you can.
The companionship of his "old man."
Games are outgrown and toys decay,
But he'll never forget
If you give him a day!

My Dad
By Hazel Fletcher Young
I love someone dearly.
He's kind as can be;
He makes me so happy;
He's my dad, you see.
He takes me out fishing;
We play ball and swim;
He knows about everything;
I'm so proud of him.
And as I get bigger,
I just want to grow
To be like my daddy,
'Cause I love him so.

Fathers have grown in many ways -
Children in only a few.
And yet it is often hard to tell
Just who is teaching who.

What is a Father?
(Author unknown)
A father is a person who is forced to endure childbirth without an anesthetic. He growls when he feels good and laughs very loud when he is scared half-to-death. A father never feels entirely worthy of the worship in a child's eyes. He is never quite the hero his daughter thinks . . . Never quite the man his son believes him to be. And this worries him sometimes. (So he works too hard to try to smooth the rough places in the road of those of his own who will follow him.) A father is a person who goes to war sometimes . . . and would run the other way except that war is part of his only important job in his life, (which is making the world better for his child than it has been for him.) Fathers grow older faster than people, because they, in other wars, have to stand at the train station and wave goodbye to the uniform that climbs on board. And, while mothers cry where it shows, fathers stand and beam . . . outside . . . and die inside. Fathers are men who give daughters away to other men, who aren't nearly good enough, so that they can have children that are smarter than anybody's. Fathers fight dragons almost daily. They hurry away from the breakfast table, off to the arena which is sometimes called an office or a workshop. There, with callused hands, they tackle the dragon with three heads; Weariness, Works, and Monotony. And they never quite win the fight, but they never give up. Knights in shining armor; fathers in grease stained trousers: There's little difference as they march away each workday. I know Heaven is called the Christian's rest, but I have an idea that, after a long visit with everyone there, he won't just sit on a cloud and wait for the girl he's loved and the children she bore. He'll be busy there too . . . repairing the stars, oiling the gates, improving the streets, smoothing the way.

zany kind of treat!

Spaghetti
On top of spaghetti,
All covered with cheese
I lost my poor meatball
when somebody sneezed
It rolled off the table
and onto the floor
And then my poor meatball
it rolled out the door.
Rolled into the garden
and under a bush
and then my poor meatball
was nothing but mush
The mush was as tasty
as tasty could be
and early next summer
grew into a tree
The tree was all covered
with beautiful moss
it grew lovely meatballs
and tomato sauce
So if you eat spaghetti
all covered with cheese
hold on to your meatballs
and don't ever sneeze.

What Is a Friend?
by Katherine Davis
A friend is a person of great understanding
Who shares all our hopes and our schemes,
A companion who listens with infinite patience
To all of our plans and dreams.
A true friend can make all our cares melt away
With the touch of a hand or a smile,
And with calm reassurance make everything brighter,
And life always seem more worthwhile.
A friend shares so many bright moments of laughter
At even the tiniest thing--
What memorable hours of light-hearted gladness
And pleasure this sharing can bring!
A friend is a cherished and precious possession
Who knows all our hopes and fears,
And someone to treasure deep down in our hearts
With a closeness that grows through the years.

Friends
A friend is someone who listens,
A friend is someone who cares.
A friend is someone who understands,
A friend is someone who shares.
It's nice to have a special friend
To tell all your secrets to.
It's nice to know that someone you like,
Is someone who really likes you.
A friend is someone you call on the phone
To talk about nothing at all.
A friend is someone who cheers you up.
And makes you feel ten feet tall.
Everyone would like to have
A special friend it's true
But if you want a special friend,
You need to be one, too.

Miracle of Friendship
(Author Unknown)
There's a miracle called friendship
That dwells within the heart
And you don't know how it happens
Or when it got its start.
But the happiness it brings you
Always gives a special lift,
And you realize that friendship
Is God's precious gift.

It's the Thought that Counts
By Clay Harrison
Often in times of trouble
we don't know what to say,
So we choose to say nothing,
and sometimes run away.
When friends are really hurting,
we don't know what to do,
So we offer weak excuses
or say we're hurting too.
It really doesn't matter
what kind of gift we bring;
We only need to be there
if we don't bring a thing.
It truly is amazing
what a hug can do,
When heartache numbs the senses,
and friends depend on you.
There's comfort just in knowing
that you are not alone,
When tears are overflowing,
and hearts are cold as stone.
It's the loving prayers of others
that balance our accounts,
For when we measure love,
it's still the thought that counts.

I hold in my hands
a box of gold,
With a secret inside
that has never been told.
The box is priceless
but as I see,
The treasure inside
is far more precious to me.
Today I share
this treasure with thee,
It's the treasure of friendship
You've given to me!

Where Are My Friends?
I'm walking up and down the street
Hoping that by chance I'll meet
Someone who will want to play
On this warm and sunny day.
It seems that no one is around,
One single friend cannot be found.
I guess I'll have to go back home,
Where I will sit and be alone.
But as I reach my house I see
My friends have come to play with me!
Gathered at my own front door
Are five or six or even more.
My friends have all come out to play
On this warm and sunny day.

There are friends who pass like ships in the night,
Who meet for a moment then sail out of sight,
With never a backwards glance of regret,
Friends we know briefly, then quickly forget.
Then there are friends that sail together,
Through quiet waters and stormy weather.
Helping each other through joy and strife,
These are the friends who bring meaning to life.
