All About Family
By Joan Walsh Anglund
Families may come from lands afar,
They each may follow a different star,
They each have different hopes and rules
    Different dreams and different tools
Formed of life . . . molded by life,
They are "Together" through joy and strife.
"Together" they meet all their days
And shape their lives in special ways.
A family is the place we start
It is our Strength . . .
Our Home, our Heart.
So to my Family I give praise
And keep this record of all our days.

Family Ties
By Virginia Moore
Family ties are precious things,
   Woven through the years,
    Of memories of togetherness,
    Of laughter, love and tears.
Family ties are cherished things,
    Forged in childhood days,
By love of parents, deep and true,
    And sweet familiar ways.
Family ties are treasured things,
And far though we may roam,
The tender bonds with those we love,
Still pull our hearts toward home.

The Family Quilt
Our family quilt was started
generations in the past.
Designed with love,
its pattern's rich
in values that will last.
Each person sews another square
of memories that endure,
While challenges add strength
that makes our family life secure.
And stitching it together
threads of closeness,
warmth, and caring
Make it cozy and more comforting
with every year of sharing.

Our Family is a circle of
    strength and love
With every birth and every
    union, the circle grows.
Every crisis faced together
    makes the circle stronger.
Every joy shared adds more
    love.

Father
All My Father's
Anyone can be a father, but it takes someone special to be a daddy!
Dad - a son's first hero, a daughter's first love
A daddy is a man who has photos in his wallet where his money used to be.
A father is someone you look up to no matter how tall you grow.
A father is neither an anchor to hold us back , Nor a sail to take us there, But a guiding light whose love shows us the way (sea shore theme)
Father's Day fun with the sons
A father's love warms the hearts of his/her children forever.
Fun with Dad
A happy childhood is one of the best gifts that parents have it in their power to bestow.
Hop on Pop, We like to hop, We like to hop on Pop!
I am man, hear me snore
I'm as lucky as can be, for the world's best dad belongs to me.
Just me and my pa
No "lion" . . . we think our Dad is GRRRREAT!

Other words for "Father:"  Dad, Daddy, Dada, Papa, Pops, Pop, Poppy, Padre

DADDY
"Walk a little slower, Daddy."
Said a little child so small.
"I’m following in your footsteps,
And I don’t want to fall.

Sometimes your steps are very fast,
Sometimes they’re hard to see;
So walk a little slower, Daddy,
For you are leading me.

Someday when I’m all grown up.
You’re what I want to be;
Then I will have a little child,
Who’ll want to follow me.

And I would want to lead just right,
And know that I was true;
So, walk a little slower, Daddy,
for I must follow you."

Give Him a Day
What shall you give to one small boy?
A glamorous game, a tinseled toy?
A Boy Scout knife, a puzzle pack?
A train that runs on some cruising track?
A picture book, a real live pet?
No, there's plenty of time for such things yet
Give him a day for his very own.
Just one small boy and his Dad alone.
A walk in the wood, a romp in the park;
A fishing trip from dawn to dark.
Give him the gift that only you can.
The companionship of his "old man."
Games are outgrown and toys decay,
But he'll never forget
If you give him a day!

My Dad
By Hazel Fletcher Young
I love someone dearly.
He's kind as can be;
He makes me so happy;
He's my dad, you see.
He takes me out fishing;
We play ball and swim;
He knows about everything;
I'm so proud of him.
And as I get bigger,
I just want to grow
To be like my daddy,
'Cause I love him so.

Fathers have grown in many ways -
Children in only a few.
And yet it is often hard to tell
Just who is teaching who.

What is a Father?
(Author unknown)
A father is a person who is forced to endure childbirth without an anesthetic.  He growls when he feels good and laughs very loud when he is scared half-to-death.  A father never feels entirely worthy of the worship in a child's eyes.  He is never quite the hero his daughter thinks . . .  Never quite the man his son believes him to be.  And this worries him sometimes. (So he works too hard to try to smooth the rough places in the road of those of his own who will follow him.)  A father is a person who goes to war sometimes . . . and would run the other way except that war is part of his only important job in his life, (which is making the world better for his child than it has been for him.)  Fathers grow older faster than people, because they, in other wars, have to stand at the train station and wave goodbye to the uniform that climbs on board.  And, while mothers cry where it shows, fathers stand and beam . . . outside . . . and die inside.  Fathers are men who give daughters away to other men, who aren't nearly good enough, so that they can have children that are smarter than anybody's.   Fathers fight dragons almost daily. They hurry away from the breakfast table, off to the arena which is sometimes called an office or a workshop. There, with callused hands, they tackle the dragon with three heads; Weariness, Works, and Monotony.  And they never quite win the fight, but they never give up.  Knights in shining armor; fathers in grease stained trousers:  There's little difference as they march away each workday.  I know Heaven is called the Christian's rest, but I have an idea that, after a long visit with everyone there, he won't just sit on a cloud and wait for the girl he's loved and the children she bore.  He'll be busy there too . . . repairing the stars, oiling the gates, improving the streets, smoothing the way.

If God had meant us to be thin, He wouldn't have created chocolate
If we are what we eat, then I'm easy, fast, and cheap.
I've been on a diet for two weeks and so far all I've lost is fourteen days
The last time I cooked this, hardly anyone got sick.
Leftovers: food stored in the refrigerator until it's old enough to be thrown away.
Life is like a bowl of cherries
Life is like an ice cream cone . . . just when you think you've got it licked, it drips on you

Popcorn
Popcorn is really neat,
Fun to make and fun to eat.
Popcorn is a pop-pop, ever poppin,
never stoppin, show stoppin,
zany kind of treat!

Spaghetti
On top of spaghetti,
    All covered with cheese
    I lost my poor meatball
    when somebody sneezed
It rolled off the table
    and onto the floor
    And then my poor meatball
    it rolled out the door.
Rolled into the garden
    and under a bush
    and then my poor meatball
    was nothing but mush
The mush was as tasty
    as tasty could be
    and early next summer
    grew into a tree
The tree was all covered
    with beautiful moss
    it grew lovely meatballs
    and tomato sauce
So if you eat spaghetti
    all covered with cheese
    hold on to your meatballs
    and don't ever sneeze.

Friends
Adventures are more fun with two.
As sunshine turns a flowers head toward heaven, so your friendship lifts my spirit.
Backdoor friends are best.

The best antiques to collect are old friends.
Best Buddies
Best friends are forever friends
The better part of one's life consists of his friendships.  (Abraham Lincoln)
Blessings come in many ways . . . the nicest come as friends
A companion loves some agreeable qualities which a man may possess, A friend loves the man              himself.
Count your age by friends; not years.  Count your life by smiles; not tears.
Double Trouble
Even though we're far apart. You're always in my heart.
A friend is both a treasure and a comfort.
A friend is like a bowl of jelly beans . . .  good to the bottom of the bowl.
A friend is someone who chooses you - out of a whole world of people.
A friend is someone who reaches for your hand and touches your heart.
A friend is someone who understands your past, believes in your future, and accepts you today.
A friend is a person who goes around saying nice things about you behind your back.
A friend is a present you give yourself.
A friend is a rare book, of which only one copy is made.
A friend is a second self
A friend is someone who knows all about you but likes you anyway.
A friend is someone who knows our faults, yet find our virtues too.
A friend is someone who reaches for your hand and touches your heart.
A friend to me . . . you'll always be

Friendship warms the heart.
Friendship, like old quilts, stand the test of time!
Gather Friends Like Flowers
Give and take are the twin pillars of friendship. Friendship requires compromise without feeling              compromised.
A good book is like an old friend
A good friend is like a wonderful book.  The inside is even better than the cover!
A good friend is like a warm quilt wrapped around the heart
A good friend is never forgotten, but held together within the heart.
Good friends are angels on earth.
Good friends know how to be invisible
Good friends make good times even better
Hangin' Out together
Happy is the heart that holds a friend
Happy is the house that shelters a friend
The harmony between friends is sweeter than any choir.
A heart for an old friend . . . a hand for the new
If friends were flowers, I'd pick you.
In cookies of life, good friends are the chocolate chips.
In friends, we find our second selves.
In this world of ordinary people - I'm glad that I've got you!  If you want a friend - be a friend!
It's so Much Better With Two (Pooh)
I've had many friends with whom I've shared my time, but very few with whom I've shared my          heart . . .
The journey to a friend’s house is never long.
Laughter is the shortest distance between two people.
Letters are a visit when friends are apart
Love always finds a home in the heart of a friend.
Life is a patchwork of friends
Love is a friendship set to music
Make new friends but keep the old.  One is silver and the other is gold.
Many joys may come and go but friendship is forever!
New friends are silver but old are gold!
Of all the gems on this earth friends are the most precious!
Old friends are the best antiques
One of the greatest pleasures of friendship is doing something nice for someone who never finds out who did it.
Peas in a Pod
Pick your friends - but not to pieces
Real friends are those who, when you make a fool of yourself, don't think you've done a permanent job.
A real friend helps us think our best thoughts, and be our best selves.
Right next door, or miles apart, friends are always close at heart.
The road to a friend's house is never long.
Sew glad we're friends!
A sister is a special kind of friend
Sister by chance, friends by choice
Social Butterflies
Some people come into our lives and quickly go.  Some stay for awhile leaving footprints on our hearts . . . and we are forever changed.
Sometimes a library of words can't say what a hug from a friend can.  The touch of a good friend can be healing.
Special friends become our chosen family.
"Stay" is a charming word in a friend's vocabulary.  - Louisa May Alcott
A sunshiny day with a good friend
Thankful is the heart who has a true friend
There is no gift so precious as a true friend
There's enough warmth in a friends hug to warm up the coldest day
There's warmth and joy that never ends between the hearts of special friends.
Those who bring sunshine into the life of others cannot keep it from themselves.
Thoughts of you always make me smile
Time may pass and we may part - but true friends stay close at heart!
Tis better by far at the rainbow's end, to find not gold but the heart of a friend.
To be a friend it helps to bend
To get a friend, be a friend... but don't appear desparate
To have a good friend is one of the greatest delights in life.
A true friend is the greatest of all blessings.
Two peas in a pod
We give thanks for friends like ewe
What brings joy to the heart is not so much the friend's gift, but the friend's love.
When friends meet, hearts warm.
When I count my blessings I could you twice
When you're too busy for friends . . . you're too busy!
Wherever you may be, it is your friends who make your world.
Without true friends, the world is a wilderness.  (Bacon)
You are cut from a pattern I love
You and me . . . buds forever!
Your friendship lifts my heart!
You're one in a million
You've got a friend

What Is a Friend?
by Katherine Davis

A friend is a person of great understanding
Who shares all our hopes and our schemes,
A companion who listens with infinite patience
To all of our plans and dreams.
A true friend can make all our cares melt away
With the touch of a hand or a smile,
And with calm reassurance make everything brighter,
And life always seem more worthwhile.
A friend shares so many bright moments of laughter
At even the tiniest thing--
What memorable hours of light-hearted gladness
And pleasure this sharing can bring!
A friend is a cherished and precious possession
Who knows all our hopes and fears,
And someone to treasure deep down in our hearts
With a closeness that grows through the years.

Friends
A friend is someone who listens,
A friend is someone who cares.
A friend is someone who understands,
A friend is someone who shares.
It's nice to have a special friend
To tell all your secrets to.
It's nice to know that someone you like,
Is someone who really likes you.
A friend is someone you call on the phone
To talk about nothing at all.
A friend is someone who cheers you up.
And makes you feel ten feet tall.
Everyone would like to have
A special friend it's true
But if you want a special friend,
You need to be one, too.

Miracle of Friendship
(Author Unknown)
There's a miracle called friendship
That dwells within the heart
And you don't know how it happens
Or when it got its start.
But the happiness it brings you
Always gives a special lift,
And you realize that friendship
Is God's precious gift.

It's the Thought that Counts
By Clay Harrison
Often in times of trouble

we don't know what to say,
So we choose to say nothing,
and sometimes run away.
When friends are really hurting,
we don't know what to do,
So we offer weak excuses
or say we're hurting too.
It really doesn't matter
what kind of gift we bring;
We only need to be there
if we don't bring a thing.
It truly is amazing
what a hug can do,
When heartache numbs the senses,
and friends depend on you.
There's comfort just in knowing
that you are not alone,
When tears are overflowing,
and hearts are cold as stone.
It's the loving prayers of others
that balance our accounts,
For when we measure love,
it's still the thought that counts.

I hold in my hands
    a box of gold,
    With a secret inside
    that has never been told.
The box is priceless
    but as I see,
    The treasure inside
is far more precious to me.
Today I share
    this treasure with thee,
    It's the treasure of friendship
    You've given to me!

Where Are My Friends?
I'm walking up and down the street
Hoping that by chance I'll meet
Someone who will want to play
On this warm and sunny day.
It seems that no one is around,
One single friend cannot be found.
I guess I'll have to go back home,
Where I will sit and be alone.
But as I reach my house I see
My friends have come to play with me!
Gathered at my own front door
Are five or six or even more.
My friends have all come out to play
On this warm and sunny day.

There are friends who pass like ships in the night,
Who meet for a moment then sail out of sight,
With never a backwards glance of regret,
Friends we know briefly, then quickly forget.
Then there are friends that sail together,
Through quiet waters and stormy weather.
Helping each other through joy and strife,
These are the friends who bring meaning to life.

The joy of grandchildren is measured in the heart.

I Like My Bifocals, My Dentures Fit Me Fine,
My Hearing Aid Is Perfect, But Lord I Miss My Mind.

80!
Today Dear Lord I am 80 and there's much I haven't done,
I hope Dear Lord, You'll let me live until I'm 81.
But then if I haven't finished all I want to do,
Would you let me stay awhile until I'm 82?
So many places I want to go, so very much to see,
Do You think You could manage to make it 83?
The world is changing very fast
There is much in store,
I'd like it very much to live until I'm 84.
And if by then I'm still alive,
I'd like to stay till 85.
More planes will be up in the air,
So I'd really like to stick,
And see what happens to the world when I am 86.
I know Dear Lord it's much to ask,
And it must be nice in heaven.
But I would really like to stay until I'm 87.
I know by then I won't be fast, and sometimes will be late,
But it would be so pleasant, to be around at 88.
I will have seen many things and had a wonderful time,
So, I'm sure that I'll be will to leave at 89 . . . maybe.

Grandpa and Me
By Nancy Wolthoff
Come Grandpa, walk with me . . .
Help me to be the best kid I can be.
Take me here and take me there . . .
Show me now how much you care.
The many hours we share together . . .
Will be times I'll always remember forever.

WHEN I'M A LITTLE OLD LADY
(Author unknown)
I'll live with my children and bring them great joy.
To repay all I've had from each girl and boy
I shall draw on the walls and scuff up the floor;
Run in and out without closing the door.
I'll hide frogs in the pantry, socks under my bed.
Whenever they scold me, I'll just hang my head.
I'll run and I'll romp, always fritter away
The time to be spent doing chores every day.
I'll pester my children when they're on the phone.
As long as they're busy, won't leave them alone.
Hide candy in closets, rocks in a drawer
And never pick up my clothes from the floor.
Dash off to the movies and not wash a dish.
I'll plead for allowance whenever I wish.
I'll stuff up the plumbing and deluge the floor.
As soon as they've mopped it, I'll flood it some more.
When they correct me, I'll lie down and cry.
Kicking and screaming -- not a tear in my eye.
I'll take all their pencils and flashlights, and then
When they buy new ones, I'll take them again.
I'll spill glasses of milk to complete every meal,
Eat my banana and just drop the peel.
Put toys on the table, spill jam on the floor,
I'll break lots of dishes as though I were four.
What fun I shall have, what joy it will be.
To live with my children . . . Like they lived with me.

When my mouth is open wide.
    My mother slices apples
    And oranges for dessert.
    My grandma brings me doughnuts
If she finds out I am hurt.
My mother makes me drink my milk
    Most every single night.
But Grandma gives me ice cream bars
    When I do something right
My mother cooks up rice and beans
    That have an awful taste.
So I say, "See ya later,
    I'm going to Grandma's place!"

Photo Album for Grandparents
Grandma & Grandpa,
this book is for you,
though it may be quite puzzling
as the pictures are few.

But every few months
if you don't make a fuss,
we'll send you more pages
with pictures of us!

Retirement
Retired but not tired

Retirement
By Bee Ewing
To have on your side at last.
Look forward in faith to the future,
Accept with peace the past.

Time for travel, fun and adventure,
To discover new dimensions in yourself.
It is time to do what pleases you,
Take a dusty dream off the shelf.

Fulfillment is found in expression,
Priorities are yours to arrange.
Retirement is just another word,
For what can be a wonderful change.

Halloween
Boo from the crew
Bootiful
Come as you aren't
Cutest little pumpkin in the patch
Fright Night
Happy Halloween . . . whatever you are!
Hocus Pocus
I do believe in ghosts, I do, I do, I do
Mom's little pumpkins
On the Cutting Edge (carving pumpkins)
Pumpkin Patch
Silly as a Scarecrow
Trick or Treat!  Give me something good to eat.  Give me candy.  Give me cake.  Give me                    something sweet to take!

Heritage
And away she goes!
Bits of yesterday
Branching out from generation to generation (tree)
Deep Rooted Heritage (tree)
Faces from the Past
Family faces are magic mirrors
Generation Gap
Generation to Generation
I think of heaven as a garden where I shall find again those dear ones who have made my world
". . . a life recorded is twice precious - first the experience itself, and then the memory of it full and sweet when we read about it later."  (Elaine Cannon)
The light at the end of the tunnel is a muzzle flash
Looking at people who belong to us
Memories
The most treasured heirlooms are the sweet memories of our family.
Once upon a lifetime
Once Upon A Time . . .
Piecing together a family heritage (quilt)
Roaring twenties
Those Were the Days
The Way we Were

The Best is Underground
(Author Unknown)
I climbed my Family tree and found,
it was not worth the climb,
and so I scampered down, convinced,
it was a waste of time.
Some branches of my tree, I found,
were rotten to the core,
and all the tree was full of sap,
and hung with nuts galore.
I used to brag on my Kinfolk,
    before I made my climb,
but truth compels me now to tell,
of those not worth a dime.
I beg my friends who boast aloud,
of their ancestors great,
to climb their family tree and learn,
of those who weren't so straignht.
I learned what family trees are like and then,
I scrambled down.
They're like a "Tater Vine,"
because the best is underground.

The Family Tree
By Jim Wolf
One tree outlives the mighty oak
Because it's made of special folk,
    Through generations changing form,
    Providing shelter from life's storm.
Our parents' parents and before,
Who may have lived on distant shores,
    They root our lives in memories;
    We're nourished by their histories.
A sturdy trunk that lends support
And gives us care of every sort -
    The fathers, mothers, uncles, aunts,
Who nurture us like tender plants.
The children, branching toward the sky,
Have brand new dreams and deeds to try.
And babies, buds that seem so small,
Will flower so the tree grows tall.

Heirloom
By Amy Grant
Up in the attic, Down on my knees
Lifetimes of boxes, Timeless to me.
Letters and photographs, Yellowed in years
Some bringing laughter, Some bringing tears
Time never changes the memories,
the faces of loved ones who bring to me
    all that I come for,
and all that I live for,
and all that I'm going to be
My precious album is more than an heirloom to me.

Memories
(By Grace E. Easley)
Memories are heartbeats,
    Sounding through the years,
    Echoes never falling,
    Of our smiles and tears.
Moments that are captured,
    Sometimes unaware,
    Pictures in an album,
    Or a lock of hair.
Images that linger
    Deep within the mind,
    Bits of verse we cherished
    Once upon a time.
Through the musty hallways
    Of the days we knew,
    Ever comes the vision,
    Beautiful and true.
Memories are roses
    Blooming evermore,
    Full of fragrant sweetness,
    Never known before.
Life must have a reason,
    Goals for which to strive,
    Memories are lights that burn
. . . To keep the heart alive.

None
By Helen Steiner Rice
May memory open the heart's door wide
And make you a child at your mother's side
And may you feel her love around you
As happy memories surround you!

Notes on a Family Album
By Mary F. Heisey
I sit before some photographs
of people I don't know.
Mom said, "They are your relatives,"
But that was long ago.
She used to get the album out
And put me on her knee:
Then pointing, with a story line
Tell family history.
The captions used were all her own,
Each time developed new.
We never thought to write them down
Before her life was through.
I see some family features now;
I have begun to care.
Since Mom is gone, I cannot ask,
"Whose picture is that there?"
If you have the photos in a book
Without a caption, too.
Go get a pen and label them,
or you may wonder, "Who?"

This Book
By Narda Poe
This book is like a comforter,
A quilt with many parts,
A keeper of our memories,
A place to warm our hearts.
The fabric is life's events,
Those things we want to keep,
Those programs, stubs and photographs,
placed here - not in a heap!
The scraps all stitched together,
held fast with love and care,
Create a family legacy,
gift for all to share.

To the Past, Present & the Future,
I Dedicate this Book:

By Ruth Mae Fox
To the Past, because I came out of it,
To the Present, because I live in it,
To the Future, because my children shall inherit it.

Memories fill this book . . .
of places we have known,
moments we have cherished,
People we have loved
These are personal riches,
Treasures from our hearts.

"We do not spend our money on a lot of material possessions - we spend money to create memories for our children and others we love.  Those are the only things one can take away.  When health is gone or someone dies . . . or it's a hard year at school, the memories are still there . . . to open the windows of a child's mind . . . to make him or her laugh and feel warm and strong inside where it counts."   (Ann Kiernel Anderson)

Love
A kiss to build a dream on
Ain't love just the berries!
All things grow with love
Be mine
Be My Cupid
Color the world with love
Even when it's cold outside, our memories keep us warm!
A hug a day keeps the meanies away
A hug delights and warms and charms . . . that must be why God gave us arms.
A hug is a roundabout way of expressing affection.
Hugs and kisses
I got you babe
I Just Called to Say "I Love You"
If your heart is full of love, then you always have something to give.
I'm "Goofy" for you!
I'm head over heels for you
A kiss to build a dream on
Loads of love
Love can build a bridge
Love comforts like sunshine after rain.
Love for all time and eternity
Love in bloom
Love doesn't make the world go 'round.  Love makes the ride worthwhile.
Love is a gift we can give every day.
Love is everlasting
Love is friendship set to music.  (Pollock)
Love is the secret ingredient in the recipe of life.
Love is a work of the heart
Love notes
Love puts a twinkle in your eye and a smile in your heart
Love will find a way
A Mother's Love
My eyes adore you
My heart is a bargain today.  Will you take it?  (W.C. Fields)
No door is too difficult for the key of love to open
Our love goes forward on the wings of a dove.
The power of love
SWAK
Sealed with a kiss
There's no gift more magical than the joy of being loved.
Those were the days
Thoughts of you always make me smile
Time that is not spent loving is wasted.
Touched by Love
True love is a gift on which no return is demanded.
True love is like ghosts, one which everyone talks about, but few have seen.
Two hearts shall become one
The very best love stories have no endings.
The way we were
What A Wonderful World
When there is love in the home there is joy in the heart.
Where there is great love, there are great miracles.
Wild Thing, You Make My Heart Sing!
You are my sunshine!
You Light Up My Life
You make my heart leap
You've captured my heart.

Love bears all things,
    Believes all things,
    Hopes all things,
    Endures all things,
    Love never fails.

Love does not consist of gazing
    at each other,
    but in looking outward
    in the same direction.

Mom and Dad, Your love for one another
was the foundation of our home.
    Thank you for showing me
    how wonderful love can be.

To stand in the starlight,
    Just the two of us,
    My hand in your hand,
    To understand without words,
To love you is my life.
    My happiness.

Time is:
Too slow for those who wait,
too swift for those who fear,
too long for those who grieve
too short for those who rejoice,
but for those who love,
Time is not.
